Sarasota has a shade problem that most builders treat as an aesthetic issue and we treat as a design input. The mature live oak canopy that makes these neighborhoods desirable also keeps a court damp for hours after sunrise, and damp is what algae needs. Accessory structures in the residential districts are capped at 20 feet, and waterfront improvements over 30 inches need to sit at least 20 feet back from the seawall or mean high water line.
